UN Day 2025 Celebration
Zonta International District 17, Area 5 commemorated United Nations Day on October 24, 2025, with the theme "Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future." The meaningful celebration was held at the North Forbes Pavilion, bringing together Zontians, dignitaries, and advocates committed to advancing women's empowerment and sustainability.
The program opened with an invocation, the National Anthem, and the Zonta Hymn, followed by welcome remarks from Past Area Director and Past President Armita Rufino, Vice Chairperson of the United Nations Committee for Area 5. An inspirational message was delivered by Area 5 Director Susan Lim.
The highlight of the event was the Panel Discussion on "Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future" moderated by Marcy Kohchet-Chua, President-Elect of ZCME. Esteemed panelists included Ambassador Delia Albert, Former Secretary of Foreign Affairs; Mary Jane C. Ortega, Special Advisor to Y-port City of Yokohama and member of the Global Network for Safer Cities of the UN-Habitat; and Rosalyn Mesina, Country Programme Coordinator for UN Women in the Philippines.
The Zonta Club of Makati and Environs actively participated in the event, led by Past Area Director and Past President Armita Rufino. President-Elect Marcy Kohchet-Chua served as host and moderator, while President Joanne Andrada generously donated raffle prizes and bouquets of flowers for the distinguished speakers.
The celebration also featured interactive games, a Parade of Nations, and a special performance by Opera Belles, adding a festive and unifying atmosphere to the occasion. The event concluded with closing remarks from Eleanor Soriano, Vice Area 5 Director, followed by fellowship and dinner.
The United Nations Day celebration once again reflected Zonta's steadfast mission to build a better world for women and girls—empowering them to lead, innovate, and sustain positive change for generations to come.
