ZCME Strengthens Commitment to Service, Empowerment, and Truth
The Zonta Club of Makati & Environs Foundation, Inc. (ZCME) convened its 2nd General Membership Meeting on July 28, 2026 at Milky Way Café, Makati City, reaffirming the Club’s commitment to advancing the welfare of women and girls through service, advocacy, education, and strategic partnerships.
The meeting opened with the presentation of the District 17 Governor’s Second-Year Awards, recognising the Club’s outstanding achievements in service, advocacy, and sustainability. These accolades highlighted the collective efforts of ZCME members, committee leaders, partner organisations, and volunteers in implementing impactful community programmes.
Members also received significant updates from the Zonta Psychological Center at Marillac Hills, where representatives shared the Center’s continuing work in providing psychological assessment, counselling, and psychosocial interventions for girls who are survivors of abuse and exploitation. The Club likewise reaffirmed its support for Marillac through volunteerism, fundraising, and educational enrichment initiatives.
A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the Club’s partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Through the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), Marillac residents will receive free mobile skills training in Cookery NC II and Bread and Pastry Production NC II, complete with competency assessment, training allowances, and starter toolkits. The initiative aims to equip beneficiaries with employable skills and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. Further details appear in the collaboration meeting with TESDA and Marillac Center.
The meeting concluded with an engaging public forum entitled “Truth Under Pressure”, featuring award-winning journalist and podcaster Mr. Christian Esguerra, moderated by Atty. Ina Magpale. The discussion examined the growing challenges of misinformation and disinformation, emphasising the importance of press freedom, media accountability, critical thinking, and informed citizenship in safeguarding democracy.
As the Club embarks on another year of meaningful service, the 2nd General Membership Meeting reflected ZCME’s continued resolve to foster partnerships, strengthen communities, and fulfil its mission of building a better world for women and girls.
